Michael Shaps announces the release of long-awaited L Scott, a proprietary red blend wine, made in honor of his brother Scott who lost a ten-year battle with ALS in 2010.
The release party will be held in the newly built Tasting Room of Michael’s winery, Michael Shaps Wineworks, on Saturday, March 28 from noon to 5 pm. Michael will donate 10% of every bottle sale to Project ALS, a non-profit organization whose aim is to find a cure for this terminal disease. The event is free to the public.
The L Scott wine is a red blend of 75% Tannat, 20% Malbec and 5% Merlot. Conceptualized in 2012 and harvested that same year, this wine has been aging in French oak barrels for nearly two years. This wine is near and dear to Michael’s heart, as his oldest brother Scott was an inspiration to Michael. “When everyone else in my family told me I was crazy to move to France to study winemaking, Scott encouraged me and supported my decision. I credit him for giving me the courage I needed.” During Scott’s illness, the family helped organize several fundraisers for Project ALS, hoping to find a cure in time for Scott, and though Project ALS is closer than ever to finding a cure, they still need funding for more research.
The 2012 vintage is the first of many that Michael plans to produce in honor of his brother Scott, and will continue to donate a portion of each bottle sale to Project ALS for years to come. The retail price is $58/bottle. This is a limited release of 100 cases, so get them while you can!
All are welcome to come taste the L Scott wine on March 28. Cheese and freshly baked bread will be served with the wine tastings.
